The seminar was organized by the “Bubera” Specialist Medical Practice in the field of psychiatry, "Bubera" the National Association for Transactional Analysis of Serbia – NATAS, by Association „Beosavet” i Via Mea PR consulting services.

Richard Erskine seminar – Bilbao, Spain, November 2023.

We invite all mental health professionals, psychotherapists and trainees from various psychotherapy modalities to register for this course, especially trainees in Transactional Analysis, Integrative Psychotherapy, Gestalt Therapy, Body Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis..

This time, the focus of the seminar will be on live demonstrations of Erskine’s theory and methods of Integrative Transactional Analysis and developmentally based, relationally focused depth integrative psychotherapy, and will include several presentations on the theory and methods of developmentally based relational integrative psychotherapy.

In addition to lectures on the theory and methods of depth psychotherapy, Dr. Erskine will present several live demonstrations of the method with volunteers acting as “clients”,highlighting different psychotherapy methods that resolve childhood trauma and cumulative neglect, while at the same time focusing on the central importance of the therapeutic relationship.

The live demonstrations will be followed by group discussions in the room about theory and the use of methods, alternative ways of working, and considerations regarding the possible further course of therapy for the “client.”

Topics to be covered include:

  • unconscious relational patterns and physiological survival reactions;
  • recognizing trauma symptoms;
  • concepts of cumulative relational neglect;
  • developmental attunement to the age at which neglect and trauma occurred;
  • affective attachment disorders and nonverbal communication of relational neglect and trauma;
  • establishing safety to facilitate safe age regression;
  • therapeutic use of developmental images;
  • deconfusion of Child Ego States;
  • identifying relational needs and how they manifest at each developmental stage;
  • responding to the client’s unspoken needs; and
  • methods that facilitate the client’s integration of physiology, affect, cognition and behavior.

This workshop will be held in English with consecutive* non-professional interpretation into Serbian and Russian. You can read what consecutive interpretation is here.

If you cannot attend in person, join us via Zoom!

We will use Zoom to provide simultaneous passive online access to the workshop for participants who are unable to attend in person.

We are aware that there is great interest in Dr. Erskine’s workshops and that these are challenging times, so many colleagues are unable to attend in person.

We want to include all of you for whom this will be the only way to attend the demonstration of this unique form of Dr. Richard Erskine’s psychotherapeutic method and to be part of this exciting learning experience.

*Dr. Erskine insists on consecutive interpretation as another opportunity for attunement within the translation process, where it is possible to observe how the lecturer and interpreter “dance together and create art.” The interpreters are not professional interpreters, but colleagues and professionals in the field of psychotherapy, because in this type of content they have proven to be much better than professional interpreters who do not have knowledge and experience in the field of psychotherapy.

In the following text you can find:

Dr. Aleksandra Bubera Ninić prepared an interview with Dr. Richard Erskine on February 21, 2024, about his decades-long work and the upcoming workshop, which will be held live on May 23–24, 2024, in Belgrade. Watch the full interview in English.

What the difference will be between attending “in person” and attending “online” in terms of the professional content of the seminar, and what the agreement is regarding seminar attendance and recording of the seminar

The differences primarily relate to the possibility of active in-person attendance and passive online attendance, as well as the way in which in-person and online participants will see the audio and video outputs, as well as photo/audio/video recordings.

Some in-person seminar participants will be able, if they wish, to volunteer as “clients” so that Dr. Erskine can demonstrate his method and way of working with them.

All seminar participants are hereby informed that consent to recording, that is, giving informed consent,is a condition for concluding the contract, that is, for participating in the seminar.

You can view the informed consent form for seminar recording here

In order for seminar participants attending in person to be able to see and hear clearly what is happening during the demonstrations, the seminar will be audio and video recorded with two cameras, as follows:

Camera no. 1 will record::

  1. video of Dr. Richard Erskine
  2. video of the flipchart/slides with the presentation, if used
  3. video of the “client” or “clients” with whom Dr. Richard Erskine is conducting the demonstration, “from the back” so that their face is not visible
  4. in the possible case of work with a small group, there may be a small possibility that the face of someone from the small group is visible, and that face will be blurred in the recording that remains as a permanent record after the seminar
  5. the video recordings made and subsequently processed in this way will become part of the permanent video record/recording of the seminar
  6. the audio output and recordings from this camera and/or microphones recording the “client/clients” will be broadcast in the room and online and will become part of the permanent seminar recording

Camera no. 2 will record:

  1. the audience occasionally, during questions and discussion
  2. Dr. Erskine and the “client” or “clients” with whom Dr. Richard Erskine is conducting the demonstration
  3. video output recordings from this camera (no. 2) will be broadcast exclusively in the room where the seminar is being held and and will not be distributed to the Zoom meeting where the hybrid online part of the seminar is taking place, and will not become part of the permanent video record/recording of the seminar, except for the “clients” whose work with Dr. Erskine was recorded by this camera and who will be able to permanently receive the part of the recording showing their work,as well as the informed consent for seminar recording.
  4. the audio output and recordings from this camera and/or microphones recording the “client/clients” will be broadcast in the room and online and will become part of the permanent seminar recording

This practically means that participants attending in person will be able to see and hear the processof the therapeutic method demonstration, see both the lecturer and the “client” with whom the demonstration is being carried out, the flipchart/slides and the audience during questions and discussion using conference audio/video technology.

Participants attending online via Zoomwill be able to follow the video of only the lecturer and the slides/flipchart throughout, and will not be able to follow video of the “client” or the audience; they will be able to follow the audio of the lecture, demonstrations with the “clients,” and questions and discussion with the audience.

Part of the permanent video recording will be from camera no. 1, and audio from both cameras and all microphones. The permanent audio and video recording from camera no. 2, in the part showing the work of the “client” with Dr. Erskine, will be available only to the “clients” whose work was recorded.

This organization of video output enables protection of the client’s identity and prevents participants from recording them.

Also, for additional anonymity protection,Dr. Erskine will address all male volunteers by the name Džon/John,and all female volunteers by the name Džejn/Jane.

If work is conducted with a small group, numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. will be added to these names in order to distinguish participants.

In addition, participants attending the seminar in person, will be able during the time provided for questions and discussion, to ask questions and discuss with the lecturer and other participants the topics that arise in connection with the theoretical concepts and practical demonstrations presented during the seminar.

Online participants via Zoom will not be able to volunteer as “clients” for the demonstration of the lecturer’s working method. They will be able to ask questions only in the Zoom chat, which will be monitored by someone from the organizing team.

Online participants are not guaranteed that their questions will be included in the seminar, and only if there is time and space will those questions be included in the discussion with the lecturer and other participants through a member of the organizing team.

What else, in addition to these differences, has been organized for in-person participants

Participants who come to the seminar in person in Belgrade, at Hotel “M” where the seminar will be held, will be provided with the following for all three seminar days, included in the price: one morning and one afternoon break, during which juice, water, coffee, tea, savory and sweet pastries will be served, as well as a joint lunch. The hotel provides free parking for participants.
